Wayfarer Music Group is very excited that a collaborative project that spent nearly two decades in development will officially be released on Wayfarer Records. The album is entitled The Search and features Wayfarers Sean O’Bryan Smith and Brannan Lane along with renowned New York based jazz flautist Cheryl Pyle.
The story behind The Search makes its titled extremely fitting. In the early 2000s, Smith and Lane became friends while jamming together in Nashville, Tennessee. Before his relocation to Austin, Lane ended up giving Smith some of his undeveloped tracks to experiment with from his private analog tape archive. Smith was a highly sought after touring and recording bassist at the time so the tracks lay on a hard drive for many years with Smith working a little here and there when he could. During his travels, Smith met Pyle and became fast friends collaborating on a number of critically acclaimed jazz projects as well as performing together in New York. Smith enlisted Cheryl to bring her special touch to these tracks in the 2010s but, again the project went back to its dormant state until now.
The Search is an experiment of mixing ambient soundscapes with elements of avant-garde, free jazz and post rock and will be available on Wayfarer Records worldwide on Friday, July 4th!
