Originally formed in the late ’80s, Ivory Punch was the brainchild of accomplished saxophonist Tommy Ogle and now Wayfarer Music Group‘s President/Co-Owner Sean O’Bryan Smith. From inception, Ivory Punch became a fan favorite among music lovers across the Eastern United States. After a brief hiatus in the early ’90s, Ivory Punch reformed in 1994 with what historically became their classic lineup of Ogle, Smith, guitarist Edward A. Holub, keyboardist Jonathan Penalber and drummer Scott Turnbow. Over the next five years, Ivory Punch was a featured act at some of the top music festivals in the country while also being the support act for such notable acts as Eddie Palmieri, Edwin McCain, Kermit Ruffins and Medeski, Martin and Wood.
Known for their high energy, crowd-pumping live shows, Ivory Punch was not your average contemporary jazz group and on August 5th, 1995 a live recording at their home base club in Chattanooga, TN a now classic album among 90s contemporary jazz fans was recorded entitled A Touch of Ivory LIVE.
Now in 2025, Groovetron Records has released the 30 Year Anniversary Edition of this classic album. The 2025 version of A Touch of Ivory LIVE has been digitally remastered as well as been remixed to include the band’s trademark segues in energy to help accurately recreate these highly popular performances.
