Wayfarer Music Group began its life in 2007 as Wayfarer Records in Olympia, Washington. Over the next 17 years, Wayfarer established itself as a premier location for ambient, chill and electronic music. In 2023, Wayfarer began to expand its artist roster while actively pursuing the longtime vision of a more community-based path for the label. The concept resonated with many, and notable artists quickly began to join Wayfarer. But it wasn’t until the addition of music industry veteran Sean O’Bryan Smith that the true vision of Wayfarer began to fully take shape. After incorporating his expertise from nearly four decades in the music industry, several top artists joined the Wayfarer family including Grammy Award winning and legendary figures in the genre.

Beginning in mid-2023, Wayfarer Records began an aggressive expansion campaign with the addition of staff members and strategic business partners as well as implementing an advisory board of some of the leading business minds from multiple parts of the industry. During the expansion campaign, Smith enlisted the help of his longtime industry comrade and former business partner Dieter Spears to join the Wayfarer team as Director of Creative Media. Together the duo helped dramatically escalate the rise of Wayfarer Records which resulted in it rapidly becoming one of the preferred labels in the genre proven by multiple top charting and critically acclaimed releases.  

In mid-2024, the baton was passed from Wayfarer’s founder and CEO Dave Luxton to Smith and Spears to continue the Wayfarer vision into the future. By August of 2024, Smith and Spears had taken ownership of the label and assumed the roles of President and Vice President accordingly where they remain to this day. To mark this new chapter, Wayfarer Records completed its communal evolution, becoming what is now Wayfarer Music Group to emphasize their unified approach to the industry. This new persona helped symbolize the fact that the dream of an innovative community of artists combining forces to support one another was no longer a dream. It was clear to everyone at Wayfarer that this dream had fully been realized and the Wayfarers were now ready for whatever the future held.

Since then, Wayfarer Music Group has thrived by incorporating the skills, specialties and experiences of all its artists. This continues to allow for a brand-new business experience for their artists which allows them to deliver the finest musical experience possible to listeners around the world. Through embracing their group strength, Wayfarer has continued to expand its listener base to cover not only traditional radio and streaming services but, their artists can now be heard in television, film and gaming as well as contributing music from their immense music library to several corporate and small business projects across the US.

Today, Wayfarer Music Group is dedicated to maintaining their commitment to being a label run by artists for artists. Wayfarer fully understands the hurdles that modern day creatives face and they have combined their skills so that they can always overcome these challenges.
