Since 2007, Wayfarer has been committed to nurturing creativity amongst its artists. Now in 2025, Wayfarer is taking that concept fully to heart by reviving an old label into a new entity to ensure that the creativity of Wayfarer Music Group is never stifled. We present to you Groovetron Records. Groovetron Records has had many names over the years but, its heart has always been the same. Originally formed as Nightbird Productions in 1993 by Wayfarer Music Group’s co-owner/President Sean O’Bryan Smith, the label specialized in various instrumental releases with an emphasis on contemporary jazz. In 2004, Smith teamed with the now Wayfarer Music Group Advisory Board member and staff producer Richard J. Krainak to grow the label by changing the name to Groove Therapy Records. From 2004 to 2017, Groove Therapy Records released a number of Top 100 Billboard charting contemporary jazz releases and was heralded by critics worldwide.
In 2017, Groove Therapy Records went through its third name change after Smith left Nashville and relocated to South Florida. The label, now Resting Place Records, made the change to emphasize its expansion into other
musical styles apart from contemporary jazz. From 2017 to 2023, Resting Place Records released multiple albums in styles ranging from film soundtracks to instrumental rock. This also marked the label’s first ventures into ambient and chill finding their releases on a number of top radio programs including Echoes and New Age Notes Radio.
However, Resting Place Records went into an indefinite state of “rest” when Smith connected with Wayfarer Records but, that rest is now officially over. Now in its final evolution, Groovetron Records is here to stay. Groovetron Records is a creative location for all Wayfarer Music Group artists to release projects outside of their typical genres as well as promote other artists in numerous styles ranging from jazz to EDM to rock to wherever the music takes them. Our artists’ creative freedom is something we cherish deeply at Wayfarer Music Group and it is that passion for creativity that made it necessary to bring back an old friend as a resource for their art.
