Ambient music legend Brannan Lane is no stranger to Wayfarer Music Group fans. His trio album Emergence remains Wayfarer’s top-selling album to date and Brannan’s critically acclaimed The Sleep Album continues to be a mainstay on top radio shows and podcasts. The new ambient song by Billy Denk, Beyond Sleep feat. STØLACE, is NOW AVAILABLE from Wayfarer Music Group!!  Check out what Billy Denk recently said about this fantastic new ambient single!

The music begins with a soft, ethereal drone inspired by a sound loop Beyond Sight by STØLACE, aka Michael Tangen, from his series of improvisational music “The Insomnia Sessions.” The piece slowly evolves invoking a sense of spacious, peaceful solitude. Gentle washes of synth pads, shimmering with faint reverberations, ebb and flow like waves of fog in a moonlit forest, creating a sense of depth that stretches beyond the conscious mind.

STØLACE’s loop, replicated twice and given electronic treatments by Billy, is introduced gradually providing an organic layer which connects the listener to an intangible world just out of reach. Occasional, sparse melodic fragments of wavy synths appear and dissolve, like memories fading away in the liminal state between sleep and wakefulness. These fragments are processed to sound distant and dreamlike.

As the piece concludes, layers of sound slowly peel away, drifting off into the distance, leaving the listener with a sense of stillness and quietude, as if the music itself had slipped beyond the boundaries of consciousness.

The overall feeling of the song invites the listener to float freely in a serene, dreamlike state that is at once familiar and profoundly otherworldly.

Billy comments that STØLACE’s live performances as well as his show The Relay Station provided much joy and inspiration in creating this piece. In addition, to the loop provided by STØLACE, Billy used synths he designed in Ableton Live as well as Arturia soft synths and effects, and Valhalla effects.
