Recently, acclaimed music journalist Pete Prown of Vintage Guitar magazine had a chance to check out Wayfarer Music Group’s John Gregorius latest album entitled Communion. Pete, a highly accomplished guitarist and composer, has been one of the primary journalists in guitar based content since 1993. Check out what he had to say about John and Communion.

Pete Prown (born 1963) is an American writer and magazine editor, painter, guitarist, and music journalist. He has worked as the editor-in-chief of Guitar Shop magazine and music editor for Vintage Guitar. The highly popular internet radio station New Age Notes is premiering a brand new interview series this Saturday and their first artist is Wayfarer Music Group recording artist and Grammy Award-winner Richard Theisen. See what Dyan Garris has to say about the brand new interview series.

New Age Notes Radio (NANR), America’s premiere platform for New Age, Ambient and Electro Acoustic music, will begin presenting a new weekly radio/podcast series, NOTES From the Green Room, in September 2024.
The series is produced and sponsored by Music Matters, International, a non-profit organization that advances uses of music to promote healing and wellness. It features half-hour-long conversations with leading composers, performers and producers, and includes selections of their past and recent work. This week’s episode features Grammy -winner, Richard Theisen. The interview with Richard Theisen will be streamed on Saturday, September 7 at 4 pm US Eastern Standard Time.”

Dyan also had this to say about the show’s host. “The series host Carol Coren is an enthusiast of New Age music categories. She worked as a television and film producer for PBS, ABC and CBS affiliates as well as public agencies during early years of a career that led to years of service as director of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.  She played a role in founding Music Matters, International and created the NOTES from the Green Room series with Louis Anthony DeLise, a longtime friend she met while at Temple University where she earned a Master of Fine Arts.”

The NOTES from the Green Room programs began to be made in the spring of 2024 and have been recorded at Hotsoundz Studios in Tucson, Arizona with production assistance from sound engineer and producer Vincent Hotz.
Each NOTES from the Green Room episode offers insights into what celebrated artists do to prepare for and advance their careers as music makers. Together, they present a view of the broad scope of work being created and revered as New Age Music.

Recently, John Gregorius chatted with some of his fellow Wayfarers regarding what gear he used creating his brand-new Wayfarer Music Group release entitled Communion. Like most musicians, John has some very specific gear that helps him achieve his signature sound. Check out what he had to say.

When asked about his primary guitars, John began with  “I usually begin writing with an Ovation 1867 or my 1985 Ovation Collectors along with an TC electronics Ditto x4 and Neunber pedals for reverb, delays and freeze. I’ve also been adding the Strymon Cloudburst for ambient loops.”

John later got into his preferred signal chain when recording. “Once recording, I run from my Summit Audio preamps to a Presonus lightning interface. If it’s acoustic I’m recording or live percussion, I almost always use the DPA 4099 mic. I have one attached right to my recording desk and one on a large native drum. As for plugins I use Eventide, Neunaber and Valhalla. If it’s not live sounds and ambiences, I use Spitfire libraries pianos, strings and loops.”

John wrapped up talking about his other go to instruments. “As for guitars beside the Ovations I use PRS CE24s for electrics. I have a Stoll handmade acoustic with was used a fair amount on Communion plus a handmade Pimentel classical from Albuquerque. I also used a Godin Encore nylon which found its way on a lot of other Wayfarer projects plus ambient recordings coming out in the future.” Read More

Since its debut in 2009, the Hypnagogue Podcast has guided listeners through 90-minute trips into the worlds of ambient, electronic, and contemporary instrumental/New Age music and beyond. Each new episode offers an engaging blend of styles and artists.
