Recently, there has been a lot of buzz about the newly established Groovetron Records that is the latest addition to the Wayfarer Music Group family of brands. Groovetron Records is the new home for music created by artists from the Wayfarer Music Group collective of artists that pushes past the artistic realms of our classic brand Wayfarer Records. One of these genres that will be heard regularly on Groovetron Records is the various styles of contemporary jazz. Many of Wayfarer’s artists have extensive careers in jazz prior to their music with Wayfarer Records and it is one of those artists that we are excited to talk about today.

Long before he became co-owner and President of Wayfarer Music Group, Sean O’Bryan Smith had established himself worldwide as a first call bass player. This eventually led him in 2009 to self release his freshman contemporary jazz album Tapestry which in 2011 due to popular demand was then picked up by the well-known Australian based Wolf Entertainment Group. What started off as a pet project soon became a worldwide hit and a near 15 year relationship between Smith and Wolf. Starting with Tapestry, which is still Smith’s top-streaming album of all time and featured the legendary Jeff “Skunk” Baxter and the equally legendary Jerry Marotta, a highly successful partnership was forged. Tapestry was soon followed by Reflection which spent numerous weeks in the Billboard Top 100 and featured even more legendary performers including Gerald Albright, Randy Brecker, Jeff Franzel, Malcolm-Jamal Warner and the late Chuck Loeb which helped solidify Smith as a force in contemporary jazz.

Over the years, multiple releases followed and we are now extremely excited to announce that the full catalog is coming home to Groovetron Records!!! Smith’s pinnacle releases Tapestry and Reflection have been digitally released and will be joined by Smith’s Quartet da Funk album One Last Ride, The Library Sessions and two singles Let There Be Groove featuring GRAMMY nominated and DOVE Award winning saxophonist Shane Philen and finally Smith’s soulful version of Just a Closer Walk With Thee featuring the iconic Nashville session singer Kira Small.

Just a Closer Walk With Thee will be releasing Saturday, April 19th as part of the Easter weekend. Groovetron Records will then release Smith’s full back catalog worldwide on May 25th! Keep checking back to WayfarerMusicGroup.com for more details on these classic releases.

Wayfarer’s own fantasy wizard Christopher Caouette has been busy beta-testing his new Live From the Studio series and we are excited to now align this with Wayfarer Studios to help officially launch this series this week. Christopher will be performing in tandem with Wayfarer Wednesdays Listening Parties that happen every Wednesday night at 8 PM EST on BandCamp HERE. Caouette will launch Live From the Studio this week immediately following the weekly listening series this Wednesday, April 9th at 9 PM EST HERE

Christopher says that “This livestream will be a bit of an experiment: I’ll be testing some classic pieces from my collection using an entirely new system to run my backing tracks. (Since I can’t quite fit a full orchestra in my studio, this is the next best thing!)“. We can’t wait to see what the wizard has up his sleeve and we are excited to help launch this series in conjunction with Wayfarer Studios.

Over the weekend, highly renowned music critic Keith “MuzikMan” Hanneleck released his review on Richard Theisen’s Shambhala and we are so glad that he did. The popular review dove deep into all ten tracks from Theisen’s latest release. Hanneleck’s play by play recount of each track truly helped represent Theisen in a glowing light. In the review Keith also had this to say “Shambhala is a collection of ten tracks featuring ambient, new age, world, and instrumental sounds, colors, and emotions, all presented beautifully within the music’s arrangements.”

Early today, Groovetron Records announced the first in their three song singles that are releasing April 15th to mark the official launch of the brand-new sub label from Wayfarer Music Group. Groovetron Records will be focusing on multiple musical styles encompassing everything from EDM to Jazz. The latter is the focus of the first three inaugural release singles all featuring collaborations with Wayfarer Music Group‘s own Sean O’Bryan Smith and this time he brought in one of his dearest friends and longest musical collaborators.

Joining Smith on the second official launch single entitled Come and Go is none other than Grammy nominated and multi-platinum selling composer Jeff Franzel. Jeff is not only one of the most prominent songwriter/arrangers working today but, is also one of the most gifted pianists in the world. Smith and Franzel have toured and recorded together for well over twenty years. Their undeniable chemistry has made them a force supporting artists in multiple genres. Jeff Franzel first made his Wayfarer debut on the Wayfarer Records release Short Stories from Ambiente Solstice and now, we are excited to have Jeff return to help launch the newly formed Groovetron Records. Recently, Wayfarer Music Group announced the addition of their second record label Groovetron Records to their family of brands. Groovetron Records, as the name might reveal, is Wayfarer’s home for more groove oriented music ranging from jazz to electronica to wherever the artists decide to explore. The purpose of the label is to give Wayfarer artists the freedom to create outside of the realm of music associated with Wayfarer’s originating label Wayfarer Records. To celebrate the launch of Groovetron Records, Wayfarer is releasing three new jazz based singles this coming April 15th!

Today we would like to announce the first of the three singles coming from Groovetron Records. The single is entitled Not So Much and is a collaboration from Wayfarer artists Scott Reich, Billy Denk and Sean O’Bryan Smith. The song was born from the three Wayfarer’s deep love and experience playing jazz. Based around a Reich composition, the three Wayfarers brought each of their own unique styles and flair to this infectious new track marrying elements of ambient, fusion and contemporary jazz.

Not So Much will be available worldwide on April 15th along with two other singles to celebrate the formal arrival of Groovetron Records. This week Wayfarer Records is excited to release the latest album from Grammy Award-winning artist Richard Theisen entitled Shambhala. Shambhala is the most recent addition to the Wayfarer catalog from the esteemed composer and performer and in support of the new album, Europe’s Cultuurmania got a chance to check out the new album ahead of its releases. Top European music critic Patrick Van De Wiele has been a longtime supporter of Wayfarer artists and in his latest review, you could tell that Shambhala resonated with the seasoned music reviewer. This was made even more clear as Patrick summed it up with “Melodic New Age music in 10 tracks, taking you on a masterful musical adventure.”

Wayfarer Records’ Featured Artist of the Month for April Andrew Schoen is kicking off the month right with a wonderful review from one of the industry’s top music critics. Jonathan Widran recently had a chance to review Andrew’s upcoming release Soulever and the industry veteran critic had nothing but raves to say about this fantastic new album.
